China Sunergy to build up to 400-MW factory in California
SeeNews

Feb 14 (Renewables Now) - Solar firm China Sunergy (OTCMKTS:CSUNY) has signed a lease agreement for a site in Sacramento, California where it plans to build an up to 400-MW manufacturing plant for high efficiency solar modules.

The latest expansion comes to support China Sunergy's plan to expand its market share in the US, the second largest market for the applications of solar energy.

The Greater Sacramento Economic Council announced the lease deal, signed by Sunergy America LLC, several days ago. It said the plant is expected to start operations in May 2017. It will be located at the McClellan Business Park, at the former McClellan Air Force Base.

CSUN, as the Chinese company is also known, already has production plants based in China, Turkey, South Korea and Vietnam. This will be its first North American manufacturing plant.

"We are delighted make solid steps toward introducing CSUN-branded and Made-in-America solar modules to local customers," said CEO and chairman Tingxiu Lu.

The plant is seen to have over 200 employees. A workforce study for China Sunergy's requirements has been conducted with the help of the Greater Sacramento Economic Council. The Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) helped identify statewide incentives to support the photovoltaics (PV) manufacturing project.
