Letter: Wal-Mart drives economic growth
Chico Enterprise-Record

If anyone cares to take the time, try checking out Google Earth. Take a look at Green Valley, Ariz. Find their new Wal-Mart supercenter. Then take a look around at all the new homes, broad streets, cleanliness, sidewalks, landscaping. I don't know how old the "Google" shot might be, but we go once a year to visit family. That Wal-Mart supercenter was built in the middle of desolate desert, halfway to another town, a poor town, with little employment, and now it is almost a whole new town in itself. And the less prosperous area has become lovely with newer, nicer homes, and many were able to find work at the center, many mothers who needed income but yet needed to work part time in order to be with their children.

Where is the difficulty in having a supercenter? Every one we have seen in our travels has been clean and lovely with new business popping up around it, a complete asset to its community. Show me a Wal-Mart that is not. I'd like to find one. Prove me wrong.
