Trick-or-treat event to raise money for children's hospital
Jackie Ayres, The Register-Herald, Beckley, W.Va.

Oct. 20--When penning your list of trick-or-treating stops this year, don't forget to add Sam's Club with a little star next to it at the top of the list.

On Thursday, Oct. 29, the Beckley Sam's Club will hold its second annual Tailgate Halloween, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the WVU Children Hospital, through the Children's Miracle Network.

Sam's is asking for a $2 contribution per child trick-or-treating, and each child will walk away with a host of goodies from local businesses and organizations.

"It's a kid-friendly, safe way to take your child trick-or-treating, while raising money for a good cause," a spokesman for Sam's Club said.

Awards will be given for the best costume in the following categories: newborn to 1 year, 2 to 5 years, 5 to 8 years, 12 and up, people's choice and the best dressed pet.

The event will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Sam's Club parking lot at 1220 N. Eisenhower Drive in Beckley.

"There is no charge for your business/organization to participate in this event, with the exception of any decoration you choose for your individual booth and the treats that you provide to the children who pass through," said store manager Jeremiah Johnson.

If you would like to be a vendor, contact Johnson or Pam Wallace at 304-252-6508.

Tables will be provided for each booth. Booth space is limited.

Last year's crowd estimated 3,000 plus.

Sam's says it's expecting 5,000 attendees at this year's event.
