BRIEF: Wal-Mart donates to Hollyvale
Peter Day, Hesperia Star, Calif.

Sep. 22--No stranger to local giving, Wal-Mart last week presented $1,000 worth of supplies to Hollyvale Elementary School.

Previously, Wal-Mart gave one lucky teacher a gift of $1,000. This year, however, the company split gift10 ways so more classrooms could benefit. Additionally, the school's parent teacher committee donated two $50 gift cards.

Laddy Light, general manager of the Victorville Wal-Mart, and Melly Escamilla, the store's stationery department manager, were on hand when principal Matthew Fedders made the presentations.

Besides gift cards, a select number of teachers received boxes of supplies prepared by Escamilla and her staff.

Wal-Mart's "Write to Change the Classroom" program began when a 14-year-old girl wrote a letter to her congressman asking for supplies. President Barack Obama took note and the girl's classroom received supplies. Wal-Mart also took note and started a program to give supplies to schools.
