Foley Hoag Names Corporate Law Specialist Joseph J. Basile as Partner and Co-Chair of Firm's M&A Practice

Corporate law specialist Joseph J. Basile has joined Foley Hoag LLP as a partner and co-chair of its mergers and acquisitions (M&A) practice, the firm announced today.

Basile has represented some of the world's leading corporations, private equity sponsors and sovereign wealth funds. He has consistently been named one of the top lawyers in corporate law, M&A and private equity buyouts by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America, and the Legal 500 USA.

Basile's practice focuses on cross-border and domestic M&A transactions; control and minority investments; joint ventures and strategic alliances in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and Latin America. He also has extensive experience in distressed M&A transactions and financial restructurings. In addition to transactional work, Basile advises publicly held companies on corporate governance, strategies for engagement with activist shareholders, securities law issues, disclosure and compliance matters.

Basile comes to Foley Hoag from the Boston office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, where he was that office's managing partner.

"Joe brings an incredible depth of experience in corporate law to Foley Hoag," said Foley Hoag Co-Managing Partner William R. Kolb. "The variety and complexity of the transactions he has led span every element of mergers, acquisitions and investment counseling. He's a valuable addition to an already strong team that provides innovative, experienced counsel to corporate clients."

Basile regularly writes and speaks on corporate law issues before organizations such as the American Bar Association, International Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, Harvard Business School Association of Boston, and the New England Corporate Counsel Association.

Basile is a graduate of Stonehill College and Harvard Law School. He is a member of the Massachusetts Business Roundtable executive committee; the Stonehill College Board of Trustees; the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine Advisory Council; and the Joseph W. Martin Jr. Institute for Law and Society Board of Advisers.
