Calimesa has enacted a temporary moratorium on new massage, tattoo, body-piercing and tanning establishments.
The moratorium, unanimously approved Monday night by the Calimesa City Council, is for 45 days. It went into effect immediately.
The ban affects businesses where the primary use is massage, tattoos, body piercing or tanning. It does not affect establishments where those services are an incidental part of the overall business, according to a staff report.
The ordinance reads, "The City Council finds that the City does not have zoning regulations that either encourage or discourage a concentration of massage establishments, tattoo parlors, body piercing salons and tanning salons in particular areas of the City's commercial districts."
